Cancer Breast: fibrocystic brests and hysterectomy

hi,i have had fibrocystic brest disease for over 25 years ,i also have a fibroadeoma in left brest for ten years, and costocondroitis,i am 49 and due to have hysrerectomy in june due to fibroid,i left a post on the menoparse board, becouse my hoarmons are going crazey,i have always had brest pain, befor my period ,but the last couple of years ,the pain starts after my periods it is so bad, will the pain go after i had hysterectomy.ta shirley

I'm not sure if it all depends on whether they're going to perform a total hysterectomy? or are you going to keep your ovaries?
I had a total which took out my uterus, ovarie, tube and cervix.

I too had pain in my breasts that really hurt before I had my hysterectomy. mine was back in nov. of 2005. I was 45 at the time.

I'm glad I had mine to a certain degree. I"m happy to not suffer monthly with pelvic pain from having chronic hemmorphagic cysts that would leak out fluid all the time and cause such pain, plus I won't miss the bloating of my abdomen on a monthly basis and the bleeding.
I tried to go with out having to take anything for my menopause symptoms but my health was spiraling downwards without my precious hormones. so I was put on straight estrogen. the patches. I love them and dont' want to stop using them. but I was just told by a breast surgeon that a woman is not to stay on them longer than 3 years. My gyno who prescribes them to me never ever mentioned this important fact to me.
especially being both my sisters and aunt had breast cancer. big family history. oh and my grandmother had ovarian cancer.

so to answer your question, I did not suffer breast pain like I used to before the hyster. I did start getting pain along the sides of my breast when I first started my estrogen patches which can sometimes mean the dosage is too high.
now years later, just a few months ago, when I gave myself self breast examinations, I felt a sharp stabbing sort of pain when I pressed on certain areas of the breast. I never had this sort of pain before. it's different than the pain i used to get when I cycled.

I wish you the best with your upcoming hysterectomy. Please do as much research as possible before you have it, because there are tons of information out there to help you with the post op and pre op.
there's helpful hints on what to bring to the hospital and what to do at home when you're recovering and things like that.

hopefully you won't have anymore breast pain and if you do, you must mention this to your doctor.

good luck,

LInda
